Does the Beta of Rock include a questions block?

Does anyone know what block type is being used for this question section? Or is it something custom that's not included?

Great question.  The Q & A blocks were actually developed specifically for the RockRMS site but aren't part of the core.  That said, we will probably make them available in the future when the Rock Store is available and provides a streamlined way of installing third-party plugins

Hi David. Has this situation changed? How can I up vote the addition of the Q&A blocks to the core? This would be a great way for us to be able to post site specific instructions and responses to 'How do I...?' type questions from internal users.

I like the idea of it being in the Rock Store still. I know the Rock Team is still treading water with finding time to build out core because the Spark is only partially funded. This might be an audacious thought but I wonder if any church "needs" this feature bad enough to pay for the development work required to package it for the Rock Store. I'm not suggesting your church should just putting it out as a general idea of being a go giver.

OR maybe a couple churches all put in for it.

Just an idea to make sure we are blessing and providing for the developers. :-)

      David,

Is there any progress or consideration for putting the questions block in the store? Our Senior pastor is really wanting a way to do group messaging (http://www.rockrms.com/Rock/Ask/Using/Questions/57). I know that topic has come up several times (usually by me). The one possible way I could see doing this without much extra development would be to download the questions plug-in and create a questions channel (or whatever term you use on the back end) for each group that needs this feature. Right now it's a hand full of teams that would really benefit from it. Then set people in the group to follow that channel and receive e-mails immediately. This way e-mail addresses aren't exposed and Rock always stores the conversation.

The other possible solution was if there was a workflow trigger that could fire every time a group note was added but ideally group notes would allow for replies to give hierarchy to the conversation.

Just trying to figure out how to use blocks that already exist to push things further. :-)

I had a conversation with Jon late last week about wanting this block(s) for our Small Groups Pastor. Since we are willing to pay for it, he is going to work on putting it in the Rock shop. I told him to work on it at his convenience since I know they are busy getting 5.0 out the door and we will just be happy to know it is coming.

Thanks! I guess it's safe to assume the same is true of books and the blog (connect) sections of the RockRMS site?

    • Jon Edmiston

The same is true of the books. The blog under the connect section is really just an RSS formatter. It takes an RSS feed and transforms it using a liquid (http://dotliquidmarkup.org/) syntax. This block(s) is actually part of the core (/CMS/RSSFeed and /CMS/RSSFeedItem).

The way we have it setup is we run the blog back-end off of BlogEngine and then use the RSS Feed blocks to present it on the site. That gives your the best of both worlds.
