Heads up: if you still run background checks through the legacy Protect My Ministry (PMM) v1 integration, you need to switch before you upgrade to Rock v20. If you already use Checkr, PMM v3, or another plugin provider, no action is needed.
As previously mentioned last year, Rock is retiring the original PMM background check provider–which has shipped since Rock v2 (2014)–in Rock v20. Rock now supports Checkr as the stock provider, plus additional providers as plugins, including PMM's own current-generation v3 plugin.
What Changes in Rock v20
After you upgrade, here's what changes:
- The Protect My Ministry page under
Admin Tools → Settings → Settings is gone. You can no longer configure or submit new background checks through the legacy integration.
- The original "Protect My Ministry" no longer appears in the list of background check providers.
- Rock removes the list of Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) jurisdiction codes that only the old integration used. If you never set up MVR-based background checks with PMM v1, you never saw this list.
What Happens Automatically When You Upgrade
On first startup, a data migration runs and does three things:
- Removes the items listed above.
- Renames the "Background Check" workflow type to "Background Check (PMM Legacy)" and marks it inactive. Rock preserves the row so you keep your historical workflows.
- If PMM v1 was still your default provider, Rock clears that system setting and writes a one-time note to the Exception Log.
What Is Not Changing
- Historical background check documents remain viewable. The "View" button on a person's "Background Check Document" attribute still opens the original PDF. Rock doesn't delete any historical files or workflow rows.
- Checkr and third-party background check plugins, including PMM v3, are unaffected.
Action Items
If you still initiate new background checks through the legacy PMM v1 integration, switch to Checkr or install a plugin background check component before you upgrade. After the v20 update, PMM v1 can't submit new requests.
